NSI conducts a wide range of analyses for government and commercial clients. We are looking for an experienced Principal Research Scientist to support our government work, focused on the national security sector.
At NSI, Principal Research Scientists provide conceptual and quantitative modeling support, produce quantitative and qualitative analyses and design and leading large tasks or projects. Principal analysts must be able to independently produce releasable quality reports and white papers and mentor/supervise others in their writing efforts. They should also have knowledge of a variety of social science methods and how to collect data and produces analyses that are rigorous and valid. Principals contribute to production of NSI’s conceptual frameworks, ontologies, empirical and/or computational models. They are expected to have excellent writing, speaking, and organizational abilities, and strong attention to detail. They should be capable of working on, and leading multiple tasks simultaneously with no supervision or guidance; overseeing the work and progress of 5-8 analysts; leading larger project sub-tasks that are completed successfully and within specified timelines. Additional tasks may include compiling and analyzing statistical data, performing and guiding others to perform open-source research, identifying business development opportunities and taking the lead in preparing technical proposals and briefings to win them.
The ideal candidate has either a Master’s Degree and 10+ years experience, or a PhD and 5+ years experience, preferably in a social science discipline. Experience with government projects are a plus, and excellent research and writing skills are required. The ideal candidate must also be able to clearly and effectively communicate with a wide range of staff, clients, and stakeholders. Skill with visualization tools is a plus.
This is a remote position; however, location in either the Washington DC area, Austin TX, the Raleigh/Durham area, Boston MA, or Denver/Colorado Springs, while not required, would enable the candidate to have regular direct access to other senior personnel and/or clients.
Candidates must also either currently have or be eligible to receive a US Government security clearance.
