Position Summary The ideal candidate will have formidable site construction experience and be familiar with field concepts, materials, procedures, plans/drawings, and safety protocols within the construction industry. Service area are: Upper Peninsula, Southeast, West, Mid, and Downriver Michigan and Northern Ohio Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Pre-Construction Phase Create site logistics plan identifying trailer location, material storage, access points, gates, safety requirements, signage, temporary utilities, etc. – as needed Material management and verification Provide technical expertise throughout the Pre-Construction process including reviewing the construction plans, specifications, schedules, as well as advising the project manager of issues and/or deficiencies Understand the customer contract, project estimate and budget set-up Understand subcontractor and supplier contract scopes Prepare, manage, and update the detailed project schedule with sequence and activity duration including procurement items Establish the punch-list process and close-out procedures with the Project Manager before the work commences Assists in the preparation of overall project schedule in coordination with Project Manager Schedule and procure tools and equipment necessary for the project Construction Phase Provide leadership by establishing and maintaining an effective and harmonious working relationship with team members and subcontractors Manage day-to-day field activities to ensure that the safety, schedule, and quality requirements are met Obtain all inspections Direct and manage workloads and responsibilities of supporting staff Work alongside onsite team members to make sure project is being completed on time and efficiently as possible Maintain daily paperwork such as field reports, schedule updates, and system correspondence Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the PM for resolution Ensure that the most up-to-date contract documents are being used and followed to prevent avoidable rework Conduct subcontractor start-up meeting before their scope of work begins, as well as leading subcontractor coordination meetings Participation in regular update meetings with PM and upper management Understands and communicates to all field personnel the goal/objectives regarding construction Track material/equipment deliveries and subcontractor start dates Ensure quality control Document quality and progress of each subcontractor and supplier Review installation of materials and equipment against approved submittals Maintain progress photos Ensure job safety requirements (city, state, federal) are understood and implement by all project personnel and trade contractors. Continually strive for zero incidents on all projects.
Lead on-site safety meetings Post and maintain job site signage Watch for and correct all safety hazards at the jobsite Log weekly project safety inspection report Assist PM with review of change requests Maintain daily log (written and visual/pictures) of activities on the jobsite – post daily. Correct deficiencies identified by PM Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner Post-Construction Complete the punch list and get customer sign-off Complete as-built drawings Photo document and update close out reports Required Qualifications 5+ years of commercial construction field experience in a superintendent role (verifiable experience with thorough knowledge of various trades) Must have solid site work background Communicate using the following tools: computer, email, phone, iPad, etc. Project management and scheduling skills Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and project specifications Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project) Ability to travel on a consistent basis OSHA 30 Self-disciplined, professional, able to work autonomously and possesses strong communication and follow-up skills Hands-on leader with the ability to motivate others and enforce contracts Possesses a can-do/do what it takes attitude coupled with a strong results orientation Possesses collaboration, teamwork and conflict management skills Detail-oriented and organized Possesses strong communication skills, both written and verbal, coupled with the ability to remain calm, focused and effective under time pressure situations Understands that safety is first priority Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve the Customer and increase the goodwill and profit of the company Functional Duties: Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
